Police had a tough time trying to find the body of a man in his 40s who was shot to death early Wednesday in the Valley Glen section of the San Fernando Valley.
Gunfire was initially reported around midnight at Victory and Ventura boulevards, but responding officers did not find any evidence of a shooting at that scene. They were then told the shots came from a vehicle, according to Officer Liliana Preciado of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Division.
Police responded to a second call around 12:45 a.m. about a man down in the 13600 block of Sylvan Street, said Sgt. Steve Gottschalk of the LAPD’s Van Nuys Station. Arriving officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, he said.
The Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Preciado said a gun was found next to the man but investigation revealed the wound was not self-inflicted and police are investigating the man’s death as a homicide.
