Two suspects who stole two bottles of cognac worth more than a combined $50,000 from a Monterey Park Chinese herb shop were being sought Thursday.

Authorities did not say if the pricey bottles were for sale at the Wing Hop Fung shop or were placed there for some other reason. Nor did they speculate about how the thieves knew of the bottles and their worth.

The theft occurred about 3:45 a.m. Monday when two men managed to come down into the business at 725 W.  Garvey Ave. from the roof, according to Monterey Park police Lt. Bill Cuevas.

“Once inside, the suspects stole two high-priced bottles of alcohol,” he said.

One was a Louis XIII Rare Cask 426 Cognac Second Edition valued at $28,000 and the other a Louis XIII Black Pearl Cognac Anniversary Edition valued at $25,000, Cuevas said.

The two suspects’ images were caught on surveillance video posted to the police department’s website.

Anyone who recognizes them from the video was urged to call the Monterey Police Department Investigations Bureau at (626) 307-1236 or the on-duty watch commander at (626) 307-1200.

Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling (800) 222-TIPS.
