
A resident shot and killed a man who was apparently trying to burglarize his home in Long Beach before sunrise Monday, and no arrests have been made.
The shooting took place about 5:15 a.m. in the 200 block of East Artesia Boulevard, according to Long Beach police.
Arriving officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. The man who shot the intruder remained at the scene and was detained by officers, according to police.
The preliminary investigation indicated the shooting took place during a burglary and the resident shot the man in self-defense, according to the LBPD.
The man who was shot was taken to a hospital where he later died. His name was withheld pending notification to next of kin.
