A burglar picked the wrong victim in Long Beach when the intruder was shot to death by a resident in what appears to be self defense, according to authorities.
Arriving officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. The man who shot the intruder remained at the scene and was detained for questioning by officers, police said.
The preliminary investigation indicated the shooting took place during a burglary and the resident shot the man in self- defense, according to the LBPD. There has been no arrest.
The wounded suspect was taken to a hospital, where he later died. His name was withheld pending family notification.
The shooting occurred about 5:15 a.m. Monday in the 200 block of East Artesia Boulevard, according to Long Beach police.
