Authorities identified Wednesday the 82-year-old woman who was killed after she fell onto the street while walking in West Covina and was hit by a bus.

It happened at 4:20 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Barranca and South Garvey avenues, West Covina Police Lt. Travis Tibbetts said.

“Somehow the woman collided with the rear of a Foothill Transit bus,” Tibbetts said. “She was pronounced dead at the scene.”

She was identified by the county coroner’s office as Rosa Wong. Coroner’s officials did not have a place of residence listed for her.

There was no immediate indication of driver error or impairment being involved in the crash, Tibbetts said.

Foothill Transit spokeswoman Felicia Friesema told the Los Angeles Times that the driver made a right turn onto Garvey Avenue from Barranca Street when the accident took place.

The driver, she said, was contracted to work for Foothill Transit but was a full-time employee of Transdev, a company that provides drivers for shuttle and bus services.

Friesema offered her condolences to the victim’s family and told the newspaper the driver has been placed on leave while the accident is being investigated.
