Emergency slab repairs prompted a five-hour shutdown Thursday of a stretch of the northbound Long Beach (710) Freeway in Commerce.

The weather-related damage forced the closure around 12:45 p.m. of all northbound lanes in the area of Interstate 5, according to Caltrans and the California Highway Patrol.

The closure backed up traffic during the afternoon commuter rush, but crews completed their work and the northbound side of the freeway was re-opened at about 5:45 p.m., officials said.
