
A distraught woman who was struck and killed Sunday by a westbound Amtrak train was found to have committed suicide over a broken love affair, according to authorities.
The investigation by Riverside police found the deceased woman had been distraught over a recent breakup. The woman had left a nearby neighborhood just before she was killed and made comments to family members that she intended to commit suicide by stepping in front of a train.
There were no details yet available about the woman or the love affair that led to her suicide.
The fatality was reported to Riverside City Fire at 9:47 a.m. in the 7500 block of Railroad Avenue, near the Jefferson Street crossing.

Just before the train passed the crossing, the unidentified woman ran onto the tracks and was hit, according to Riverside police. The death investigation involved Amtrak and BNSF Railway police, along with the Riverside police and the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s office.
The woman, age unknown, was declared dead at the scene, firefighters said.
