A worker was injured Tuesday when he fell about 25 feet into a concrete cistern at a construction site in downtown Los Angeles.

The accident was reported about 2:25 p.m. at 755 S. Spring St., according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A search-and-rescue team reached the 30-year-old man about 3:45 p.m. and hoisted him out of the cistern, she said.

He was alert but in severe pain, having suffered lower extremity injuries, Stewart said.

The man was taken to a hospital to be treated and evaluated for possible additional injuries, she said.
