Two men in their 20s were killed when their car crashed on a Claremont freeway and became wedged under a parked trailer.
Alcohol and/or drugs may have been involved, but that has not been confirmed, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported about 3:50 a.m. Wednesday on the eastbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway west of Indian Hill Boulevard.
The coroner’s office identified the victims as Lee Acosta of Pomona, 28, and Miguel Angulo of Fontana, 29. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Acosta was driving, according to the CHP.
According to the preliminary investigation, the victims were in a 2015 Kia Optima that was traveling at a high rate of speed when it swerved to the right and crashed into an intermodal chassis — used to transport cargo containers — that was parked on the right shoulder, the CHP reported.
“The Kia pushed the chassis until the chassis collided into the right shoulder wall,” according to a CHP statement. “The Kia remained wedged under the rear of the chassis.”
Two eastbound lanes were closed until about 7 a.m. while an investigation was conducted.
