A man fatally injured when he was struck by a vehicle while walking in a Garden Grove crosswalk was publicly identified Monday.
Garden Grove resident Santiago Sanchez-Mendez was pronounced dead just before 9 p.m. Saturday at UCI Medical Center in Orange, according to the Orange County coroner’s office.
Sanchez-Mendez was injured about 6 p.m. Saturday, in the 12500 block of Haster Street, said Garden Grove Police Lt. Amir El-Farra.
“It appears the vehicle was negotiating a northbound turn onto Haster Street from Lampson Avenue when it struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk,” El- Farra said.
The driver remained at the scene and it did not appear that alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash, he said.
