A pedestrian, lying on the street in the Westlake community of Los Angeles, was struck and killed Saturday by a hit-and-run motorist.

With details still sketchy, it was unclear if the pedestrian, found lying in the westbound lanes of Wilshire Boulevard at Commonwealth Avenue, was hit by another driver prior to being struck by the hit-and-run motorist, according to Sgt. Dennis Diviak of the LAPD’s West Traffic Division.

Officers were dispatched to the scene at 3:35 a.m. where the unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene, Diviak said.

The police sergeant did not want to release a description of the hit-and- run vehicle, saying it might hinder the investigation.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.

Detectives from the LAPD’s West Traffic Division asked anyone with any information regarding the fatality to call them at (213) 473-0222.
