A fire broke out Wednesday at a tank farm at the Torrance Refining Co. but air readings showed no off-site impact and no injuries were reported, authorities said.

The fire was reported at 7:46 p.m. at the refinery in the 3700 block of 190th Street, according to Torrance Fire Department Capt. Robert Millea.

The fire, with 5-foot high flames, was in a pool of residual water from the refinery’s recirculation process, he said.

Twenty-five firefighters responded and flowed foam for about 40 minutes to a 50 by 20-foot area, eventually choking out the fire, Millea said.

“Air readings along the fence line showed no off-site impact,” Millea said.

“The incident was reported to appropriate agencies including the South Coast Air Quality Management District. Torrance Alerts internal and external notifications were utilized to update the community on the incident. A closing alert was also issued at the conclusion of the incident.”
