A man was discovered dead Sunday in the Metro Red Line subway in Hollywood, and rail service was delayed on the busiest passenger line in Los Angeles.

The body was found near the Red Line’s Sunset Boulevard/Vermont station, after apparently being struck by a Union Station-bound subway train, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the scene at 5:52 a.m., Humphrey said.

There were no injuries among the train operators or 40 passengers, who were safely removed.

Red Line trains in each direction were sharing the westbound track while investigators and the coroner worked on the eastbound track, said Metro spokesman Luis Inzunza.

Trains were delayed about 10 minutes on the line between North Hollywood and Los Angeles Union Station, he said.
