A former Los Angeles County sheriff’s sergeant has agreed to plead guilty to taking about $30,000 of her dead mother’s Social Security benefits, according to court papers obtained Tuesday.
Vicki Lynn Gregory is expected to enter her plea — at a date to be determined — to one federal count of theft of government property, according to her plea agreement, filed Friday.
Gregory “intentionally concealed the death of her mother … in order to continue to receive and spend” money from the federally funded Widow’s Insurance Benefits program administered by the U.S. Social Security Administration, prosecutors wrote in a charging document last April.
Gregory will serve up to six months behind bars and pay no more than about $28,500 in restitution, according to her plea agreement.
