Big storm ahead, Homeless Services extends shelter hours

With more stormy weather ahead, Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority winter shelters will offer extended hours beginning Thursday evening.

According to the authority, its shelters will operate for 38 hours beginning at 5 p.m., remaining open until 7 a.m. Saturday.

The extended hours will operate at shelters in Highland Park, Lancaster, Pomona, Santa Clarita, Skid Row, West Los Angeles, South Los Angeles, Sylmar, Long Beach and Bell.

The shelter in Pomona will remain open from 5 p.m. Thursday until 7 a.m. Sunday.

The East San Gabriel Valley shelter will not be extending its hours.

Rain is expected to return to the Southland Friday afternoon, continuing into Saturday morning.
