A man was found dead in his Lakewood home and his wife was taken to a hospital for an unspecified injury, authorities said Saturday.
While there was speculation that the shootings were the result of a murder-suicide in an unhappy marriage, authorities declined to provide any confirmation.
Deputies conducting a welfare check in the 4000 block of Fairmen Avenue found the man dead and the woman wounded, according to Deputy Trina Schrader of the Los Angeles County Sheriff. The call for service was made at 7:20 p.m. Friday.
Although a handgun was found at the scene, Schrader said the man’s cause of death and the nature of the woman’s injury were not immediately clear.
The woman was in stable condition Saturday, Schrader said.
The cause of the man’s death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, Schrader said. There was no sign of foul play or forced entry but authorities would not say whether the incident was being investigated as an attempted murder suicide.
