Traffic was mostly back to normal Sunday after a motorist in one car and a passenger in another vehicle were killed and traffic was jammed for almost eight hours in a six-vehicle crash on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Cerritos.
Three other people were also injured.
The California Highway Patrol identified Gabriela Hernandez of Huntington Beach, 24, a passenger in a 2007 Honda, as one of those killed in the crash. Hernandez was taken to an area hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

The other fatality was a man who had been driving a 1999 Saturn. He died at the scene, the CHP reported. It was not immediately known if he was the lone occupant inside his car.
The crash occurred just after 1:10 a.m. Saturday on the northbound freeway at the Artesia (91) Freeway, said California Highway Patrol Officer Peter Nicholson.
The man driving the 2007 Honda, a 32-year-old resident of Huntington Beach, suffered moderate injuries in the crash, the CHP reported. Another passenger in the 2007 Honda, a 30-year-old woman from Huntington Beach, suffered major injuries, as well as a 36-year-old woman from Lakewood, who was driving a 2016 Honda.
A SigAlert issued at 1:53 a.m., closing the 605 in both directions and diverting traffic to the eastbound and westbound lanes of the 91, was canceled at 9:31 a.m., Nicholson said.
The CHP’s Santa Fe Springs office asked anyone with any information regarding the crash to call them at (562) 868-0503.
