The owner of a Burbank doughnut shop fought off two masked men who tried to rob the business at gunpoint Wednesday, authorities said.
The crime occurred about 5:30 a.m. at Kim’s Donuts & Coffee, at Victory and Magnolia boulevards, , said Burbank police Lt. Travis Irving.
“The owner of the business said two males entered the shop wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks and at least one of the suspects was armed with a handgun,” Irving said.
“One suspect held the owner at gunpoint … (and) the owner grabbed the handgun and became involved in a physical struggle with the suspects. The suspects ultimately left the store and were last seen traveling west on Magnolia Boulevard, possibly in a white sedan.”
The owner was treated by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries he received during the altercation, Irving said.
Irving told Fox 11 that police advise against fighting with an armed suspect.
“Generally we recommend complying with the suspect’s orders,” Irving said. “Generally the property you’re going to lose is not worth your life. But in this case, this gentleman might have found himself in a life-or-death situation, and he reacted as he thought he needed to.”
