A woman was stabbed Tuesday inside her hospital room in Long Beach, and her alleged attacker was arrested a short time later.

The crime occurred about 3 a.m. inside St. Mary Medical Center, in the 400 block of East 10th Street. Police believe the attack stemmed from a domestic dispute.

The suspect, in his 30s, was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and domestic violence and was held on $1 million bail, said Long Beach police Lt. Mark Coble.

The woman was a patient at the hospital and was attacked in her room by the man, who fled but was arrested a short distance from the hospital, Coble said. She was hospitalized in stable condition and was expected to survive, he said.

Police did not immediately release the names of the suspect or victim.
