A woman was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison for fatally stabbing her boyfriend during an argument at their home in Watts last summer.

Katrina Jeaneene Rawls, 27, pleaded no contest March 13 to voluntary manslaughter for the Aug. 27 killing of Ty Garland, 34.

Rawls was arguing with her boyfriend at their home in the 2000 block of East 114th Street when he tried to strangle her and she armed herself with a kitchen knife and stabbed him several times, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said shortly after the killing.

Rawls has remained behind bars since her arrest last Aug. 28. A murder charge that had been filed against her was dismissed as a result of her plea.
