Firefighters Saturday put out a stubborn dumpster/compactor fire at the rear of a Kohl’s department store in Northridge.

The fire also damaged the exterior and rear interior of the store in the 8800 block of Corbin Avenue, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department, adding that the structure’s fire sprinkler activation system helped lessen damage to equipment and the loading dock area.

Firefighters dispatched to the scene at 8:18 a.m. had the fire out within 21 minutes of their arrival, Humphrey said.

No injuries were reported. A cause of the fire and damage estimates were under investigation.
