A woman was found dead Thursday on the banks of the Los Angeles River in Long Beach, and authorities were working to determine if foul play was involved.
Police received a call about 1:30 a.m. about a person spotted on the rocks of the river, just south of the Ocean Boulevard bridge, said Long Beach police Lt. John Kanaley.
Responding officers found the woman dead along the river’s bank, he said.
The coroner’s office also responded and will determine the woman’s identity and cause of death.
LBPD spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said late Thursday morning that a vehicle matching the description of one seen leaving the area was stopped and the occupants questioned, but no arrests were made.
A dive team and search-and-rescue unit were sent to the scene to search for any potential evidence, police said.
Anyone with information regarding the death was urged to call LBPD detectives Donald Goodman and Mark Mattia at (562) 570-7355.
Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling (800) 222-TIPS.
