Police Saturday were trying to figure out why three people near Skid Row were stabbed before officers were forced to shoot and wound the suspected bloody attacker.
The officer-involved shooting occurred around noon Friday in the area of Sixth and San Pedro streets, where officers witnessed the suspect attack a victim with “a sharp-edged object,” according to Officer Sal Ramirez the Los Angeles Police Department‘s Media Relations Section.
Witnesses told reporters at the scene that the suspect was shot when he failed to obey commands to drop the weapon.
Police had first responded to a report of a stabbing at the intersection of Seventh and San Julian streets, where one of the victims was wounded, before a report came in of another stabbing at the intersection of Fifth and Crocker streets, Ramirez said, adding that the suspect is believed to have stabbed all three victims.
The suspect and victims were all taken to a hospital and were in stable condition, he said.
The weapon was recovered and police were investigating what led to the stabbings, Ramirez said.
