A suspected drunken driver was in custody Friday following a crash in Pasadena that killed one of his passengers.
The single-vehicle crash was reported at 11:42 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and Michigan Avenue, said Pasadena Police Lt. John Luna.
The driver, a 22-year-old Altadena resident, was believed to have lost control of the 1990s sedan he was driving, which struck a curb and a light, Luna said. The vehicle was found upright.
The front-seat passenger died at the scene, Luna said, and the man’s other passenger, a 22-year-old Pasadena man, was treated at the scene by paramedics. The surviving passenger was arrested for public intoxication and transported to a local hospital for medical clearance prior to booking, Luna said.
The driver was being investigated for driving while intoxicated, he added.
Motorists had been advised overnight to avoid Colorado Boulevard between Michigan and Chester avenues as the crash investigation was underway.
