A scary fire in a jail cell that could have threatened inmates and officers was quickly doused overnight at the Alhambra Police Department, a police lieutenant said Sunday.

Police did not release the time when the fire occurred at the police station at 211 W. 1st St.

Still, all inmates were escorted to safety while a jailer quickly put out the fire, said Alhambra police Lt. Sean Heckers.

“No other injuries were reported other than the jailer who experienced some smoke inhalation and was subsequently transported to a local hospital for precautionary treatment and/or follow up,” Heckers said.

Alhambra police and fire were conducting an investigation to determine a cause of the fire.
