Beverly Hills police Monday were trying to figure out what happened when a woman was killed and a man critically injured after one of the vehicles in a crash hurtled into them as they stood on a Beverly Hills street corner.
The crash was at the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Bedford Drive, according to Beverly Hills Lt. Renato Moreno.
Police reported that two SUVs had collided and one struck the two people. But other reports from the scene indicated two cars and only one luxury SUV were involved.
Authorities did not say whether the victims knew each other or were just standing close to each other on the corner of the pricey Beverly Hills neighborhood.
The two pedestrians were taken to a hospital, where the woman later died, Moreno said.
The man remained in critical condition.
The identities of the victims were withheld, pending notification of kin.
There’s no available information about the SUV drivers.
The Sunday evening crash about 5 caused a massive traffic jam in Beverly Hills for hours as police shut Wilshire Boulevard in both directions between Roxbury and Peck drives. The area was reopened about 10:25 p.m.
Anyone with information was asked to call the Beverly Hills police Traffic Bureau unit at (310) 288-2696.
