A 76-year-old driver was killed in a hit-and-run crash on the Pasadena (110) Freeway in Elysian Park as the other motorist involved fled the scene, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday.
The CHP later identified the victim as Hing Young of Los Angeles, and they asked for public help in tracking down the driver of the suspect vehicle.
Authorities did not say whether the victim was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The deadly accident occurred about 2:15 p.m. Friday on the northbound freeway, south of the Golden State (5) Freeway, and involved Young’s 1999 Toyota and a motorist driving a 2015 Honda, the CHP reported.
The impact of the crash caused both cars to travel to the right shoulder of the freeway where Young’s vehicle struck a pole and the Honda hit the raised curb.
Paramedics rushed Young to County/USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later. His passenger, a 73-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital.
The motorist in the 2015 Honda fled the scene.
The CHP’s Central Los Angeles office asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at (213) 744-2331.
