A search was underway Friday for a vandal who went on a window-smashing spree in downtown Menifee, causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage.

The Menifee Countryside Marketplace and Menifee Town Center, located in the area of Antelope and Newport roads, were targeted in the predawn hours Thursday, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Sgt. Curt Harris said a single suspect is believed to be responsible for breaking front glass displays and glass entrance doors attached to a dozen businesses.

The total cost of replacement and repairs will come to roughly $200,000, according to Harris. He said detectives have developed leads that could reveal the suspect’s identity, but no further information was released.

A possible motive for the vandalism spree was also not disclosed.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Perris station at (951) 210-1000.
