An overturned gasoline tanker that spilled an estimated 24 tons of fuel on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway in the Castaic area has snarled traffic for much of Sunday.
A SigAlert was issued around 10:46 a.m. for the two-vehicle crash near Cherry Canyon, south of Lake Pyramid, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Emergency crews have been on the scene all day, and only one lane remained open on the freeway.
Hours later, around 5:30 p.m., the CHP reopened the #2 and #3 lanes.
A timetable for cleanup and full reopening of lanes has not been provided.
There is no word on injuries.
