A 23-year-old man was struck and killed Sunday by a motorist while he was near his disabled SUV on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in West Covina.

The 23-year-old man, driving a 2006 Ford Escape, was involved in a crash on the westbound 10 Freeway, approaching Holt Avenue, a little after 12:50 a.m. His car stopped, blocking the number four lane, the California Highway Patrol reported.

He got out of his car and for unknown reasons stepped into the number three lane. A 67-year-old man from La Puente, driving a 2006 Mercedes-Benz, was slowing for the crash.

The man was hit by the Mercedes, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not immediately released.

The 67-year-old Mercedes driver was not injured; drugs and alcohol are not believed to be crash factors.

The CHP’s Baldwin Park office asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at (626) 338-1164.
