Police Monday sought the public’s help in capturing three suspects allegedly responsible for the shooting death of a 29-year-old man gunned down in the back yard of his Harbor City home nearly four months ago.
Officers responding to a call of gunfire about 4:25 p.m. on Jan. 18 in the 1200 block of West 256th Street found the victim, Juan Ignacio Alcala, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Alcala was standing in his back yard when the suspects approached him and shot him multiple times, according to the LAPD.
Surveillance video taken just prior to the shooting shows three suspects in a white 1998 Chevrolet Astro van, according to police.
Detectives identified the driver as 22-year-old Andy Leonel Garcia of Harbor City, and said he was seen getting out of the van along with two other male suspects.
“Detectives believe that after getting out of the van, the three suspects ran to the rear of the victim’s residence and shot him,” according to a police statement. “Following the shooting, the suspects ran back to the van and fled southbound on Normandie Avenue.”
Anyone with information about Garcia or who recognizes the other two suspects was urged to call Harbor Area detectives at (310) 726-7882 or (310) 726-7880.
After-hours and weekend calls should be directed to (877) LAPD-24-7. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling (800) 222- TIPS.
