A 49-year-old Maywood man was killed Saturday when a white pickup truck overturned on a freeway on-ramp.
The crash on the Hacienda Boulevard on-ramp to the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway occurred a little after 5:10 a.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer M. Iniguez.
The 1995 Ford Ranger was going eastbound on the Pomona Freeway in either the HOV lane or the No. 1 or No. 2 lane, Iniguez said.
“As the Ford Ranger was approaching Hacienda Boulevard, the left rear tire tread separated from the tire,” Iniguez said. “The driver reacted in such a way to cause the Ford Ranger to overturn onto its roof on the right shoulder.”
The truck continued sliding on its roof across the right shoulder, the on-ramp lane from southbound Hacienda Boulevard and came to rest on a metal guardrail on the right shoulder of the on-ramp, the officer said.
The driver was the sole occupant of the pickup truck and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Iniguez said. His name was not released pending notification of relatives.
A SigAlert issued at 5:42 a.m. closing the Hacienda Boulevard on-ramp was canceled at 10 a.m., the CHP said.
