A brushfire burned at least 17 acres Sunday in Lambs Canyon, south of Beaumont before it was finally contained.
The fire was reported at 12:51 p.m. in an unincorporated area south of Beaumont beside Highway 79 south of Dump Road, Tawny Cabral of the Riverside County Fire Department said.

The first-arriving chief reported that the fire was spreading uphill at a “slow to moderate” rate.
By 2:56 p.m., the fire had been 50 percent contained, and was fully contained by 7:30 p.m., Cabral said.
At least one lane of Route 79 was temporarily blocked, but the road between Hemet and Beaumont remained open to traffic.
