The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department conducted two overnight DUI checkpoints that resulted in only one arrest, the sheriff’s department announced Saturday.
One checkpoint was conducted from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday at Washington Street and Avenue 47 in La Quinta and resulted in the arrest of one person for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, according to the sheriff’s department.
The second checkpoint was held at Monterrey Avenue and Country Club Drive in Palm Desert from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. and no arrests were made, authorities said.
A total of 1,200 vehicles were contacted at the La Quinta checkpoint and 772 vehicles were contacted at the Palm Desert checkpoint.
The man arrested during the La Quinta checkpoint was identified as 33-year-old Ruben Miranda of Indio and he was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting, the sheriff’s department announced.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. Funding for both checkpoints was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
