A sleeping little girl was injured in her bed when an SUV driven by a drunken driver slammed into her family’s home in the quiet early morning darkness Sunday.

While the girl’s room collapsed, the drunken driver tried to flee the scene by running away. But authorities said he was followed by an outraged neighbor who summoned police who were then able to make an arrest.

It wasn’t clear if the driver was injured, but his four-door SUV sustained major damage from the force of the crash. The front end engine compartment was collapsed all the way back to the windshield and the windshield itself was shattered, even though it remained in place.

The crash was reported at 3:08 a.m. in the 1200 block of Juneberry Place in the Ventura County city of Oxnard, north of Los Angeles.

Three girls were in the collapsed room, but only the one sustained minor injuries, according to Oxnard Police.

Police said the driver appeared to be drunk or on drugs. There were no other details immediately available about the identify of the driver or where he’d been drinking. There was no word from police about the number of adults in the home.

Other than the one little girl, there were apparently no other injuries. There was no damage estimate to the home.
