A motorist plowed through a guardrail at the Interstate 15/91 Freeway interchange in Corona Monday, leaving the car hanging halfway off of a connector ramp and close to plunging onto freeway lanes below.

The crash was reported just before 11 a.m. on the northbound Interstate 15 transition to the westbound Riverside (91) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Honda Civic ended up dangling over the side of the connector road, prompting the California Highway Patrol to shut down the entire 91 Freeway. A SigAlert was issued at 11:20 a.m. as traffic backed up for miles in both directions.

The motorist was able to extricate himself from the car, apparently uninjured, according to reports from the scene. No other vehicles were involved.

Corona Fire Department personnel attached a wench line to the Honda and pulled it back onto the roadway, where it was loaded onto a tow truck and taken away.

Both sides of the 91 were reopened at 12:10 p.m. The connector ramp was reopened a few minutes later.
