Firefighters knocked down a second-alarm fire at a city-owned yard in Long Beach and no injuries were reported.

The blaze was reported in the 1700 block of San Francisco Avenue, said Brian Fisk of the Long Beach Fire Department.

First arriving units reported Wednesday night “heavy fire and smoke through the roof of a large concrete structure” and immediately called for a second-alarm assignment for extra resources and manpower, Fisk said.

The fire was extinguished in 20 minutes after an “aggressive fire attack,” Fisk said.

The fire was contained within an old concrete hopper that was filled with rubbish, Fisk said.

“Access and overhaul operations were difficult given the many layers of combustible material,” Fisk said.

The cause of the fire was under the investigation.
