A decomposed body was discovered by hikers in Griffith Park, authorities reported Wednesday.
The body was found around 4:30 p.m. Monday afternoon in the Fern Dell Drive area of the park, said Sgt. John Cunca of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Northeast Division.
Cunca said the body was highly decomposed and that the county coroner’s office is taking over the investigation, adding that officials do not suspect foul play.
The body was so decomposed that neither officers nor the coroner could determine the gender or approximate age of the person, the Los Angeles Times reported. Coroner’s officials believed the body had been at the location for about a month, according to the newspaper.
