A 5-year-old child was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross a Riverside road, and police said the victim has severe brain trauma at a a hospital Sunday.
The crash was reported at 9:12 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Rutland and Farrier avenues, according to the Riverside Police Department.
Sgt. Erich Feimer said a Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 39-year-old Riverside resident was heading north on Rutland Avenue when the child and an adult entered the roadway from the northwest corner of the intersection towards Rutland Park. The intersection does not have a marked crosswalk.
The 5-year-old was struck by the Pathfinder, suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized at Loma Linda University Medical Center, Feimer said.
The child, a Riverside resident, is expected to survive but “sustained severe brain trauma,” he said.
The crash was under further police investigation.
