A 40-foot tank being loaded onto a ship developed a small methane leak Wednesday in San Pedro, prompting the evacuation of the ship but no injuries were reported, authorities said.

The incident was reported at 4:14 a.m. at the West Basin Container Terminal at 2050 W. John S Gibson Blvd., said  Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Out of caution, the ship was evacuated and a Hazmat squad was evaluating the situation, Stewart said.

There were no medical complaints made and no one was required to be taken to the hospital, she added.
