A pedestrian on a sidewalk was struck and killed Thursday in Wilmington by a pickup truck whose driver tried to run from the scene.
The fatality occurred about 3:15 p.m. in the area of East E Street and Fries Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division.
LAPD Officer Aareon Jefferson said the pickup truck was southbound in Fries when its driver tried to steer around a vehicle stopped at a red light.
The truck jumped a curb and hit the pedestrian, who was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, Jefferson said.
The driver, a male adult, was arrested, and two passengers who tried to flee along with him were detained, the officer said.
The victim’s name and age were not immediately available.
