A pedestrian mysteriously standing or walking on a freeway onramp was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday that was driving onto to the eastbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway near downtown Los Angeles.
The crash was reported at 1:28 a.m. on the Alameda Street onramp to the Santa Monica Freeway’s express lanes, said California Highway Patrol Officer Elizabeth Kravig.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, she said. No information about the victim was released.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian remained at the scene.
There was no immediate word from authorities about the reason the pedestrian was walking or standing on the freeway onramp in the early morning darkness.
The onramp was closed for the investigation but was reopened about 5:15 a.m.
