A man whose face was impaled on a black wrought iron fence in the Vermont Square neighborhood was freed by firefighters Sunday night and transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Around 9:07 p.m., Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to reports of man impaled on a fence near the intersection of 51st and Figueroa.

When firefighters arrived they used the Jaws of Life to free the victim’s face.

There is no updated information on his immediate condition, and there’s been no confirmation on how or why he was impaled.
