Authorities Sunday were investigating the death of a 55-year-old male inmate at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility.
The inmate suffered a “life-threatening medical emergency” shortly before 8 p.m. on Friday and on-site medical personnel attempted life-saving procedures immediately, said Sgt. Richard Carroll of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The inmate was subsequently hospitalized but later died due to his condition, he said.
“At this time, no foul play is suspected,” Carroll said.
The inmate’s identity was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
