
A man whose face was impaled on a black wrought iron fence in the Vermont Square neighborhood was in critical condition Monday at a hospital.
The victim was freed by firefighters using the Jaws of Life Sunday night, but there were few details about the horrific incident.

It wasn’t yet clear how the man ended up impaled on the wrought iron fence, and whether a crime was involved or it was the result of an accident.
Around 9:07 p.m., Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to reports of man impaled on a fence near the intersection of 51st and Figueroa.
When firefighters arrived they used the Jaws of Life to free the victim’s face.
There is no updated information on his immediate condition, and there’s been no confirmation on how or why he was impaled.
