An investigation was under way Sunday after a man was killed when he was struck by an MTA Green Line train at a station in Downey.
There was no word of how the deadly incident happened, nor why the victim was on or too near the tracks.
The death was reported just before 10 p.m. Friday at the Green Line Lakewood Station, at Lakewood Boulevard and the Glen Anderson (105) Freeway, said Ramon Montenegro of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department’s Transit Services Bureau.
The man was struck by an eastbound train, Montenegro said. Downey firefighters pronounced him dead at the scene at 10:16 p.m.
Both eastbound and westbound tracks were closed for a few minutes, then the westbound track was re-opened and the eastbound side was reopened at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
The death was under investigation.
