An equipment failure caused an underground vault explosion and temporary outage to a nearby middle and high school in Panorama City Sunday, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said.
The explosion and equipment failure happened about 5 p.m., near the intersection of Arleta Avenue and Sheldon Street, according to LADWP spokeswoman Ellen Cheng.
“An underground cable took out a circuit causing the explosion,” Cheng said. “It mainly affected our equipment and cut power to a nearby middle school and high school.”
The equipment was repaired and power was restored at 6:22 p.m., Cheng said.
