A search was underway Monday evening for a swimmer witnesses said had gotten into trouble in the ocean off Rancho Palos Verdes.
Witnesses reported hearing someone screaming for help about 6:45 p.m. in the area of Portuguese Bend, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher.
Boats, a helicopter and divers were deployed, but there was no immediate sign of any victim, the dispatcher said.
A description of the swimmer was not available.
