Authorities Sunday were trying to determine why a detention center inmate mysteriously died while in custody.
However, there was apparently “no foul play” in the 47-year-old’s death.
The inmate suffered a medical emergency at the Robert Presley Detention Center downtown Riverside jail, according to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Christian Dekker.
“Facility medical personnel responded and immediately began life-saving efforts,” Dekker said. “The male was transported to a local hospital by ambulance, where he succumbed to his condition and was pronounced deceased.”
The death is under investigation, he said. There was no word of why the victim was in custody, nor his identity.
“At this time, no foul play is suspected.”
