Law enforcement authorities Sunday hunted a gun-toting attacker who shot a man multiple times in broad daylight at a market in the unincorporated area of West Whittier.

Despite being the target of a hail of bullets, the unidentified victim was not killed, but was hospitalized in critical condition.

Los Angeles County Sheriff‘s deputies were called at 2:45 p.m. Saturday after the shooting at the Sunshine Market in the 8800 Block of Norwalk Boulevard.

The victim had been shot multiple times and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Norwalk Boulevard was closed in both directions between Walnut Street and Perkins Avenue as deputies investigated the shooting.
